Why Titlis is the high-altitude day trip from Lucerne
Titlis reaches 3,238 metres above sea level, more than a kilometre higher than Pilatus. The ascent starts in Engelberg and runs by cable car through TrΓΌbsee and Stand to the summit. The return ticket includes the suspension bridge known as the Cliff Walk and a glacier cave.
You reach Engelberg by train from Lucerne in about 40 to 45 minutes on the Interregio. That makes Titlis a realistic day trip, and a good alternative to Pilatus if you want to see snow and ice, even in summer.
2026 is an unusual year. The Rotair is being rebuilt and is out of service from 17 August to 11 December 2026. The mountain stays open, with a replacement lift. Read the next section before you book.

Rotair closed until 11 December 2026
The mountain is open, but the way up is different this autumn.
What is closed
The Rotair cable car is out of service from 17 August to 11 December 2026 because of a rebuild.
What replaces it
A new single-cable cabin called TITLIS Connect, with room for 65 people, takes you to the summit. The mountain is open all year.
What is limited
Access is restricted while the work goes on. The Cliff Walk and the Ice Flyer can be reached by a detour in 2026.
When it is back to normal
Full operation resumes on 13 December 2026. If you want the usual ride, travel after that date.

The official page does not state how long the CHF 102 price is valid, so check the price for your travel date before you buy. The Lucerne Travel Pass has replaced the Tell-Pass and costs CHF 240 for three days. See Pilatus tickets and prices if you plan to ride both mountains with a pass.
What you see and do at the top
The return ticket includes the Cliff Walk and the glacier cave, so you do not pay for them separately. The Cliff Walk is a suspension bridge, and the glacier cave is part of the same ticket.
The Ice Flyer costs CHF 12 extra and you pay on site. The Horizon Deck stands on the new tower and has been open since 1 June 2026. It needs its own ticket. The price is not listed here, so check it at the ticket office.
Bring warm clothes even in July. At 3,238 metres it is much colder than in the valley.
